Hip hop's media is widely diversified on television, radio, and in the homes of millions. Over a course of ten years, for women it has changed its image of provoking sexual, provocative , and promiscuous activity into a more motivating self- respecting type attitude.
When people think hip hop, the first thing that comes to mind is loud, rambunctious music and half naked women. Women lacked self respect because they didn't have the courtesy to cover up their bodies and take life at its core, making something great out of themselves. Women fluctuating the assets to music that degrades them stating, “let me see it jiggle” and commanding them to “shake that a**”(Mystikal). This music also persuades them to wear provocative clothing and imposes them to take off their clothes as well, it states: “its getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes”(Nelly).
I'm starting to see a great impact on females with the type of music being published nowadays. Alicia keys, Melanie Fiona, Monica, and many others are stepping up to help contribute to this change. They're setting a trend letting young woman know that its okay to be yourself . Movements toward young black womens' success has been made by Teresa Clark, the founder of Black Girls Rock. This movement have inspire girls to have set standards and goals for themselves ,instead of being thought of as a sex toys or objects for male usage. Womens' Advocate, Lacey Clark agrees that “women should think of themselves has precious jewels, because they have the ability to shine like a moonlight star.” BET has also encouraged a great advance by airing television shows like, My Black is Beautiful and The Monique Show to set good examples of how young women should become.
